As Manhattan jurors deliberate over Michael Avenatti and allegations he tried to extort Nike out of millions of dollars, a trial date was set for him in another pending criminal matter Wednesday on charges alleginghe stole from porn star Stormy Daniels.
The California attorney — who could soon be walking free if jurors find him not guilty of two counts of attempted extortion and one count of honest services fraud in the Nike case — will face a new trial April 21 on allegations he stole $300,000 from his former client and forged her signature.
The trial date was scheduled at the same time Judge Paul Gardephe was prepping jurors to deliberate on the extortion case.
Federal prosecutors allege Avenatti diverted funds, earned from Daniels’ memoir, “Full Disclosure,” and used the cash to pay for personal expenses, including a lease payment on a Ferrari, hotels, airfare, meals, car services and dry cleaning.
The firebrand attorney, who rose to fame representing Daniels over claims she had a pre-White House affair with President Trump, purportedly used cash from “another source” to give Daniels half of the money he stole, prosecutors previously said.
Aside from the pending Nike and Daniels cases, Avenatti also faces criminal charges in California for allegedly stealing from other clients.
He’s maintained his innocence in all of the cases.
