El Chapo seen in rare 2016 footage from Mexican prison

Rare footage has surfaced showing Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzman being processed through a Mexican prison in 2016, calmly identifying himself by his alias and stating his occupation as “farmer.”

Guzman, the notorious Mexican drug lord, is seen speaking with a guard as he wipes black fingerprint ink from his hands during a seven-minute video from the Altiplano prison, published by the news site Latinus.

The video came with a trove of photographs of Guzman from the processing, showing him getting his hair buzzed in a beige prison uniform with inmate number 3870 printed across the left breast of his shirt.

Guzman goes on in the clip to answer mundane questions about his age and pants size — 58 and 34, respectively.

The kingpin offered a more complicated question when asked for his wife’s name.

“The one I’m married to is Alejandrina Salazar,” he answered, head bowed as he worked to clean the ink from his hands. “But the one I live with is Emma Coronel.”

The footage eventually shows guards locking the door on Guzman in a cell with a gray cement bench. He was handed a jacket, a thin mattress and rolls of toilet paper.
