Missing Georgia college student Anitra Gunn was found dead days after her disappearance — as her boyfriend was named a person of interest in the case, according to authorities and a local report.
The Fort Valley Department of Public Safety said a female body was recovered near the Peach and Crawford County lines Tuesday afternoon — and it was confirmed to be Gunn, 23, early Wednesday.
Her body was discovered under an assortment of sticks next to her car’s detached bumper, which authorities found 150 feet off a two-lane road, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Authorities previously said the bumper “is very important” and whoever has it might know where Gunn is.
Gunn’s boyfriend, DeMarcus Little, was arrested on separate charges late Tuesday and named a person of interest in her death, according to local police.
“I think it’s pretty common sense who our person of interest is,” Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese told reporters Tuesday, according to the Journal-Constitution. “It’s the boyfriend. We’ve talked to him three times.”
Little, also 23, was charged with criminal damage to property in connection with a Feb. 5 incident in which he allegedly smashed the windows of Gunn’s apartment and slashed the tires of her vehicle, authorities said.
He has not been charged in connection with her death. More charges may be forthcoming, police said.
Gunn, a senior at Fort Valley State University, was last seen at her boyfriend’s aunt’s home Valentine’s Day morning.
Since then, she never returned calls and texts from concerned family and friends.
