Ryan Newman released from hospital after terrifying Daytona 500 crash

Ryan Newman was pictured Wednesday walking out of the hospital alongside his daughters, the best possible news following the NASCAR driver’s fiery crash Monday during the final lap at the Daytona 500.

“Ryan Newman has been treated and released from Halifax Medical Center,” his team Roush Fenway Racing tweeted Wednesday.

Two hours earlier, Roush Fenway also had tweeted a picture of a smiling Newman standing alongside his girl in his hospital room.

“Ryan Newman continues to show great improvement after Monday night’s last-lap accident at Daytona International Speedway,” his team wrote. “The veteran driver is fully alert and walking around Halifax Medical Center. True to his jovial nature, he has also been joking around with staff, friends and family while spending time playing with his two daughters.”

The 42-year-old Newman was rushed to the hospital Monday after his No. 6 car spun into the wall, flipped and was struck by Corey LaJoie’s vehicle. Newman’s Ford Mustang then flew into the air and slid across the track on its roof before igniting into flames.

Hours after the wreck, Roush Fenway Racing said in a statement that Newman suffered serious injuries, but they weren’t considered life-threatening.
