Texas man impaled during freak accident calls 911 himself

A Texas driver was impaled by a fence post after a freak car accident — but was still able to call 911 himself.

Father-of-two Jake Tabor dialed police early Tuesday morning with a two-inch-thick pole pierced through his abdomen, according to KHOU.

The pipefitter was on his way to work about an hour north of Houston at 4 a.m. when he struck a deer and ran off the road.

Tabor’s red Chevrolet truck went careening off Highway 75 North and into a chain-link fence, shooting a pole through his mid-section which barely missed his heart, his wife told KHOU.

Miraculously, the 24-year-old was able to call for help and remained conscious until first responders arrived.

“We have a thing called the golden hour. In the golden hour, you want to get him extricated (and) get him to the hospital as quickly as possible to prevent any life-threatening injuries,” North Montgomery County Fire Department Battalion Chief Bill Derks told KHOU.

Firefighters took 30 minutes to cut the pole and carefully free Tabor from his vehicle, Derks told the outlet.

“It was a pretty chaotic scene. We had to cut the fence off the car to make access,” Derks said. “If someone were to move that pole or take it out of his chest, it would cause a major loss in blood.”

Tabor was transported to Conroe Regional Hospital where he is now in a stable condition after surgery, according to the report.

“He’s very lucky to be alive,” Derks told KHOU.
