Kobe Bryant memorabilia auction announced a month after his death

A prominent auction house is going forward with a scheduled April sale of memorabilia items from late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.

Julien’s Auctions will sell Kobe’s game-worn jerseys, signed sneakers and basketballs — and even his hand prints from Grauman’s Chinese Theater as part of a Sports Legends auction in Beverly Hills on April 30.

Thursday’s announcement came one day after the e-commerce giant eBay told TMZ it had blocked the sale of multiple listings for souvenirs handed out at Bryant’s public memorial Monday at Staples Center because “we do not allow listings that attempt to profit from human tragedy or suffering.”

The 18-time All-Star and five-time NBA champion died Jan. 26 along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others in a helicopter crash in Southern California.

“As one of the millions of fans mourning around the world, we were deeply saddened and shocked to learn of Kobe Bryant’s passing while we were preparing for our annual Sports Legends auction a few weeks ago,” Darren Julien, the president and CEO of Julien’s Auctions, said in a released statement. “We are honored to include this collection of his items and pay tribute to this giant who was an inspiration not only to basketball fans but to the entire world.

“We welcome his fans to our free to the public exhibition opening April 27 at our gallery in Beverly Hills which will feature these treasures from his brilliant life and career.”

Among the Bryant items up for sale include a No. 8 Lakers home uniform he wore during the 1999-2000 NBA Finals and No. 24 home jersey worn during 2006-07 season, as well as a signed pair of game-worn black and white Adidas sneakers.
