Boston man charged with killing his mother

A 22-year-old Boston man has been charged with killing his mother, police said.

Zackery Grandy was taken into custody Thursday after cops responded to a residence in Dorchester and found a woman inside who was later pronounced dead, Boston police said in a statement.

The victim’s name has not been released. Grandy is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on a murder charge, police said.

The slaying was the city’s 10th homicide of the year, a police spokesman told the Boston Globe.

A man who lives just a few houses from the crime scene said he was stunned upon hearing about the “unbelievable” incident.

“This is a main street,” Rodrigo Monteiro, 28, told the newspaper, adding that he did not know the victim’s family. “You don’t expect things like that.”

A police spokeswoman declined to provide additional details, including a possible motive, when reached for comment early Friday.

A car parked near the home had what appeared to be bullet holes in its windshield, WFXT reports.

Grandy’s arraignment, which had been scheduled for Friday, has been postponed in order for him to be evaluated, Suffolk County prosecutors said, declining further comment, according to the station.
