Domingo German involved in Dominican Republic dune buggy accident

VENICE, Fla. — Suspended Yankees pitcher Domingo German avoided being hurt when he was involved in a dune buggy accident in the Dominican Republic on Friday.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone was told German was in the back seat of the vehicle. A story by Dominican news outlet El Nuevo Diario, however, was worded as if German were the driver of the vehicle, which turned over in San Pedro de Macoris and injured two of the four people in the vehicle.

“He’s fine,” Boone said of German. “He was in the car. Driver side, back seat. He’s been to the complex [in the Dominican Republic]. He got checked out. He is fine.’’

According to El Nuevo Diario, two others in the car were injured. Ingris Ramirez suffered an open fracture of the right forearm and Gerson Hernandez suffered left-knee trauma.

German, an 18-game winner last year, is working out at the Yankees’ complex in Boca Chica while his teammates train in Tampa as he continues to serve an 81-game suspension for violating MLB’s domestic violence policy. German could have joined the team in Tampa, but the Yankees preferred he work out in the Dominican Republic. He has 63 games remaining on the suspension and is eligible to return in June.
