It’s not too big, not too small — it’s juuust right.
The onetime home of Robert Southey, who wrote “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” is on the market for $1.2 million.
Called Burton Cottage, the five-bedroom, two-floor home is situated in a bucolic village in southern England. It’s believed that Southey drew inspiration from the countryside retreat when writing the fairy tale “The Story of the Three Bears” in 1837.
The poet laureate’s former house, which is listed by Fine & Country New Forest, is on the edge of the New Forest National Park. Although it’s been modernized a bit since Southey’s days — the kitchen has Bosch appliances and a Belfast-style sink — there’s still plenty of old-school charm, including a thatched roof, exposed timber beams and cozy under-the-eaves bedrooms. The grounds feature a back deck and a half-acre yard with gardens, a pond, a gravel driveway, a garage and some outbuildings, all enclosed by hedges for privacy.
