James Harden escalates All-Star feud with Giannis Antetokounmpo

It’s another feud sparked by getting picked over for a team on the playground, this time featuring James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The last two NBA MVPs have been trading jabs this month after Antetokounmpo picked Kemba Walker over Harden in the All-Star draft.

“I want somebody that’s going to pass the ball,” Antetokounmpo said with a laugh when asked by Charles Barkley on TNT why he didn’t want “a dribbler,” with Harden available for the taking.

The beef was only just beginning, it appears.

After the All-Star game — won by Team LeBron, who drafted Harden with the next pick after Walker — Antetokounmpo doubled down and said offensively his team was targeting whomever Harden was guarding because they believed they could score on him.

Now the Rockets star guard is firing back and he’s not going lightly.

“I wish I could just run and be 7 feet and just dunk. Like that takes no skill at all,” Harden told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols in an interview released Friday. “I gotta actually learn how to play basketball, how to have skill. I take that any day.”

As for Antetokounmpo’s dig about wanting somebody who could pass on his team for the All-Star Game, Harden didn’t think it was a laughing matter.

“I average more assists him than [Walker], I think,” Harden said. “I don’t see what the joke is.”

Entering Friday, Harden was in fact averaging more assists per game (7.3 to 5.0) than Walker.

But fans might not have to wait long for another round of swipes. Antetokounmpo’s Bucks play Harden’s Rockets on March 25.
