While the Nets announced four of their players have tested positive for the coronavirus, the Knicks remained mum.
The Post reported Thursday and Friday the Knicks were not eligible for testing because none of their players showed symptoms. The Knicks’ medical director, Dr. Lisa Callahan, was following guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the New York State Department of Health.
The Knicks declined comment Tuesday if anything has changed in wake of the Nets’ stunner. The Nets reportedly were tested Saturday only because they hired a private company to do the tests, which came back Tuesday.
In what would seem to support the Knicks position, Mayor de Blasio tweeted: “We wish [the Nets] a speedy recovery. But, with all due respect, an entire NBA team should NOT get tested for COVID-19 while there are critically ill patients waiting to be tested. Tests should not be for the wealthy, but for the sick.”
Brooklyn superstar Kevin Durant told The Athletic he was among the players who tested positive for the virus, but added he was feeling fine.
The NBA had recommended days ago to seek advice from local authorities, and there’s since been drive-in testing areas set up in some places in Westchester, where the Knicks have their practice site and several players live.
The Knicks faced three players recently who have come down coronavirus — Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell on March 4 and Christian Wood on March 8. According to sources, the Knicks believe Gobert and Mitchell were not contagious March 4.
The Warriors revealed they haven’t been tested in a conference call Tuesday with their GM Bob Myers and head coach Steve Kerr.
“The bad news is not great but the unknown makes a lot of this difficult,’’ Myers said on the conference call. “We’ve been told tests are in short supply.’’
Kerr revealed a similar sentiment.
“It’s frustrating but just the reality,’’ Kerr said. “We’re in the same boat as everybody. It’s very difficult to find a test in California and many places.’’
The Knicks haven’t had a member of the front office speak to the press since Nov. 10. New president Leon Rose, a former agent whose first day was March 2, has not talked to the media.
