Norway wants a gold medal in safety.
In a letter to the International Olympic Committee, Norway expressed their reservations about the upcoming 2020 Summer games in Tokyo and urged IOC officially to call it off.
“With respect to the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo, we, like the IOC, are all concerned about the health and safety of athletes,” the Norwegian Olympic Committee said in the letter, addressed to IOC boss Thomas Bach. “Our clear recommendation is that the Olympic Games in Tokyo shall not take place before the COVID-19 situation is under firm control on a global scale.”
With institutions and economies shutting down around the world in an effort to halt the spread of coronavirus, the future of the games has become increasingly in doubt. In many nations, qualifying events have already been canceled in the name of public safety.
So far, the show is still on and the Tokyo Games are scheduled to run from July 24 to Aug. 9.
