Ex-Astro Evan Gattis shows off Mike Fiers ‘snitches’ beer mug

Evan Gattis might have Mike Fiers on his mind every time he drinks a cold one.

The former Astros catcher and designated hitter on Friday showed off his creepy new beer glass, which depicts Fiers’ face and the line, “snitches get stitches.” It was Fiers who blew the whistle on the Astros’ cheating scandal, going public about his former teammates illegally stealing signs during the 2017 season.

Now a Houston-area restaurant is selling beer glasses to blame Fiers for the secret getting out and Gattis was among those to get one before they sold out.

“For the record I have zero bad feelings towards Fiers,” Gattis tweeted on Saturday after his original tweet, showing off the glass, was met with some backlash. “We have actually texted and I hoped he didn’t get too much hate/ (actual scary hate mail, threats etc.) he was our teammate. I just thought the glass was funny.

“The way the “public” feels about us cheating is how I felt when I at least assumed that other people were cheating against us. No excuses. But I understand everyone’s anger. Doesn’t exactly put humpty dumpty back together again.”

While MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman have been among the many to applaud Fiers for speaking out, there are other prominent voices who feel differently. Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz and Jessica Mendoza all criticized Fiers for going on the record about the Astros’ cheating instead of handling it in house.

Fiers was a pitcher on the 2017 Astros team, which won the World Series, before leaving for the Tigers and now the Athletics. He said during spring training he has received death threats for exposing the Astros.

Gattis, who hit .263 with 12 home runs in 2017, has not played since 2018.
