Listen to Episode 4 of ‘Pinstripe Pod’: Opening Day Memories feat. Tino Martinez

It’s Monday, which means a brand-new episode of the “Pinstripe Pod” with Chris Shearn and former Yankees reliever Jeff Nelson.

Shearn and Nellie open this week’s podcast talking about Aroldis Chapman’s Instagram picture with his jacked physique and how being that strong affects a pitcher. Is Chapman about to be an Avenger? The guys then share their Opening Day memories, and Nellie tells a story about his first Opening Day with the Yankees in 1996.

NY Post baseball columnist Kevin Kernan drops by to discuss a shortened season and what changes baseball needs to make. He breaks down how this season will have an asterisk next to it no matter how many games end up being played. Kernan thinks baseball needs to use this time to get things back to the way they used to be, instead of some of the rule changes that have been put in place.

Yankees great and four-time World Series champion Tino Martinez then joins the pod. He talks about coming with Nellie from Seattle to New York, replacing Don Mattingly, winning four titles, the 2001 season, being replaced by Jason Giambi, taking over for Mark McGwire in St. Louis and the legendary managers he played for in his career. Nellie and Martinez look back to the story that was told on last week’s podcast about their bus nearly tipping over before the 1998 season started. The two-time All-Star also talks about one of his best friends, Luis Gonzalez, beating the Yankees in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series in Arizona.
