Noamme Elisha, 27, is a concert tour manager and usually on the road for work. Now stuck at home in Bushwick, she decided to foster a dog.
When concerts started getting canceled, I knew that I was going to be home for many weeks, if not months. I contacted several fostering agencies and basically took in the first dog I could. I’ve had Pepper, a 14-month-old Rottweiler mix, for three weeks.
She was not very well trained, and she has a lot of energy! The first week was difficult — her adjusting to a new space and me adjusting to having someone else in the house who needs a lot of attention.
Week 2 was her jumping on furniture and testing limits. It was hard not to cave because she’s so cute. Now if I say “sit,” she does — mostly.
Walking her is the highlight of my day. Pepper gives me structure and something to get up for in the morning. It will be hard to say goodbye. I wish I could keep her but my shows are going to start up again sometime. So I’m making sure that Pepper is the best dog for a family to adopt.
