NFL Draft 2020: Ranking the top 5 punters, kickers, returners

The Post’s Ryan Dunleavy gives his top 5 punters, kickers and returners in the 2020 NFL Draft:

Punters

1. Braden Mann, Texas A&M, 5-11, 198: Averaged nearly 49 yards for his career while also mastering the short directional punt. Handled kickoffs, too.

2. Michael Turk, Arizona State, 6-0, 226: Nephew of 19-year NFL punter Matt Turk is a boomer who sometimes outkicks his coverage. Left a year of eligibility on the table.

3. Sterling Hofrichter, Syracuse, 5-10, 196: Field-position weapon known for directional kicking and hang time. Made a 52-yard field goal in a pinch.

4. Tommy Townsend, Florida: Younger brother of an NFL punter (Johnny) who needs to fine-tune the craft because he allows too many return yards.

5. Joseph Charlton, South Carolina: Improved in each of his three seasons, topping out at 47.7-yard average. Holds on field goals, too.

Kickers

1. Rodrigo Blankenship, Georgia, 6-1, 190: Thick-rimmed glasses gave him a cult-like following. Converting all 200 career PATs and 82 percent of field goals helped.

2. Tyler Bass, Georgia Southern, 5-10, 185: Blasts kickoffs through the end zone, but doesn’t have much experience on field goals of 50-plus yards.

3. Dominik Eberle, Utah State, 6-2, 190: One of just three kickers in NCAA history with three field goals of 50 yards or more in one game. Drilled all 167 PATs.

4. Cooper Rothe, Wyoming, 5-11, 178: Converted 76 percent of his career field goals and was a 2018 finalist for the Lou Groza Award for the nation’s best kicker.

5. Tucker McCann, Missouri, 6-2, 215: Added punting to his repertoire to complete the trifecta (kickoffs, field goals) in 2019. Made 72 percent of field goals.

Returners

1. Joe Reed, Virginia, 6-0, 224: Averaged 28.7 yards with five touchdowns on 106 career kickoff returns. Cuts like a running back, but plays slot receiver.

2. Lynn Bowden Jr., Kentucky, 5-11, 205: Want versatility? Here’s 206 carries, 114 catches, 79 pass attempts, 71 kickoff returns and nine punt returns (two touchdowns) in his career.

3. Jalen Reagor, TCU, 5-11, 206: Electric mid-round to late-round pick at receiver with home-run return ability. Averaged 17.8 yards on punts and 24.2 yards on kickoffs in limited duty.

4. Brandon Aiyuk, Arizona State, 6-0, 205: A likely second-round pick at wide receiver, he averaged 16.1 yards on punts and 31.9 yards on kickoffs last season, with one touchdown.

5. K.J. Hamler, Penn State, 5-9, 178: Too many drops as a slot receiver, but a double-threat returner — if he can withstand collisions without injury.

Late riser

Bass: Two is the average number of kickers drafted over the last decade, and Bass solidified himself as No. 2 in the 2020 class with his leg strength at the Senior Bowl.

Falling fast

Aiyuk: Underwent core-muscle surgery this week — NFL stars Odell Beckham Jr. and Cam Jordan had it this offseason, too — with no OTAs to worry about missing. Red-flagged for injury at Senior Bowl.

Small-school Wonder

Isaiah Rodgers, Massachusetts, 5-10, 170:

Too small to be an NFL cornerback, but led the NCAA with 1,295 kickoff return yards in 2019. Only defensive player in top 50 in all-purpose yards.
