This family took quarantine time-killing to new heights.
An Australian family has replicated the entire 15-hour flight from their canceled vacation — in their living room, according to a report.
Kirsty Russell said her husband, Nathan, came up with the idea to simulate their flight from Sydney to Munich after the coronavirus pandemic disrupted their long-awaited trip around Europe, the Guardian Australia reported.
“It started as a joke but it has actually been quite fun,” Russell told Guardian. “We thought the kids would not be into it at all. But they have embraced it.”
The family packed their bags to prepare for the Wednesday flight on the fictional “Lounge Chair Air,” which included a trip through security in their kitchen, replica inflight meals and custom boarding passes.
Photos from Russell, who live-tweeted the faux flight, show their living room lounge chairs set out like an airplane cabin, with the family members snoozing and watching iPads to pass the time.
Her husband delivered their meals on old library trolley.
Now the family has “arrived” at their destination, Russell said they will try to mimic as much of the vacation as possible by making local dishes and taking virtual tours of some of the hotspots.
“My husband put together an amazing itinerary — so we still want to use that,” she told The Guardian. “Things like the Louvre have virtual tours now.”
They started with a German schnitzel to celebrate their first “night” in Munich, according to an Instagram post.
The staycation, so far, has been a “really nice way to bring everybody together,” she said.
“It was just an idea to make the most of this,” Russell told the newspaper.
