Jay Glazer’s ‘big’ NFL news is met with Twitter fury
Jay Glazer tried to warn us.
“The news I have tonight is not transactional news, not a player getting traded or signed,” Glazer tweeted on Wednesday morning after hyping that “big national news” was forthcoming the previous night.
The news, announced on Glazer’s “Fox Football Now” radio show, was that Rams center Brian Allen was the first NFL player to test positive for coronavirus. Thankfully, Allen appears to have mostly recovered from the virus after a three-week battle, though he has still not recovered his sense of taste and smell. Doctors have warned him that those may not come back for six to eight months, according to Glazer.
The reaction to this on Twitter was more anger toward Glazer than compassion toward Allen.
A brief sampling of the responses:
“You’re a joke.”
“Can’t believe I stayed up till 11 for this.”
“What the hell is wrong with you. Milking news like this??”
The bar is high for Glazer’s breaking news stories. He may not break as many as Adam Schefter, but when he does, it is usually significant. So, despite him cautioning his followers, many were still expecting the next big blockbuster deal.
In a time without live sports, NFL free agency and the upcoming draft are the only crumbs of sports activity that fans have had and they are desperate for any inkling of more.
And they will now have to wait.
