An Edison, New Jersey girl faces criminal charges for assaulting and yelling racial slurs at an Asian woman over the coronavirus.
The girl, who authorities have not identified because of her age, was among a group that surrounded the 55-year-old victim on April 4, according to a report in NJ.com.
She yelled at the woman and punched her in the back of the head, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Edison Township Police told the outlet.
She was charged Thursday with bias intimidation, riot, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.
She also faces one count of violation of an emergency order because she was outside during the state’s coronavirus lockdown and is not an essential employee, police said.
The incident is still under investigation and no charges were announced for any other people involved in the attack, authorities told the outlet.
