It’s been too long time since Knicks fans could watch something on MSG Network to make them feel really euphoric. So, the network is going to party Saturday like it’s 1999.
MSG will roll out four games — airing between 2-10 p.m. — from the Knicks’ improbable 1999 playoff run that ended with the team’s most recent trip to the NBA Finals. Jeff Van Gundy’s group became the first No. 8 seed to make the Finals after spending the season in mediocrity.
The telecasts will feature fresh interviews with the key participants, including Latrell Sprewell, who reconciled with the organization recently after a long feud with owner James Dolan.
“All of a sudden, you’re at the top. It’s New York, you did it. In the city, in the mecca, in the Garden,’’ Sprewell said in excerpts obtained by The Post. “And we’re going to the Finals, I’ll never forget that.”
Included in the four-game feast is the Allan Houston Shot game — his bouncing game-winner against the Heat in a deciding Game 5 of the first round. And the miracle win over Indiana in the Eastern Conference Finals thanks to Larry Johnson’s 4-point play.
“The team was so talented, we had so many different personalities,’’ Sprewell said. “It just took some time for us to really understand each other and to get a feel for what Jeff wanted out of us. And once we finally got a hold of that, we just took off.
“We beat Miami in that (late) regular season game. And from then on, I swear we just gelled. From then on, we just clicked. Everything seemed to just fit together. So when we got into the playoffs, we had no fear.”
Johnson’s 4-point play has become as iconic a shot as Houston’s game-winner versus Miami. After the inbounds pass by Charlie Ward was deflected, Johnson seized it on the left wing and lofted the ball over Antonio Davis, who was flagged with the controversial foul as the ball floated in.
“The play was meant for Allan Houston, but for some reason I knew the ball was coming to me,’’ Johnson said in the excerpt. “I had 3-pointer on my mind the whole time. I was not going to the basket. I gave him a pump fake, a little jab to the right. I knew it was going in once I let it go.”
Johnson doesn’t get his chance if Houston doesn’t score off a magical bounce off the iron and glass in Miami — and Van Gundy surely would have been canned.
“When that shot dropped, it almost gave us such a high boost because people weren’t expecting us anyway,’’ said Houston, who still is a Knicks executive. “Think about it, 8 seed beating a 1 seed, the city is going crazy.”
The current Knicks were on their way to a seventh straight season out of the playoffs before the NBA was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 11.
