Yankees and Mets to pay full-time employees through May

With MLB commissioner Rob Manfred leaving it up to individual clubs to lay off or cut the pay of major and minor league coaches, trainers and scouts beginning May 1, the Yankees are among a list of teams that will continue to pay full-time employees through May.

The Associated Press was the first to add the Yankees to the list. The Mets are expected to pay their employees as well.

Manfred suspended uniform employee contracts with the season on hold because of COVID-19. No games mean no incoming revenue.

However, the commissioner left it up to each club as to what it was going to do.

In an AP story Monday, it was reported the Yankees, Diamondbacks, Braves, Red Sox, White Sox, Reds, Twins, Phillies, Padres, Giants and Blue Jays will pay full-time employees through May. The Tigers don’t plan any layoffs or furloughs.
