The brother of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, Jace Prescott, died Thursday at the age of 31, the team announced.
“It is with great sadness and support that we share the news of the passing of Jace Prescott today,” a Cowboys spokesperson said in a statement during the NFL Draft. “The loss of Tad and Dak’s brother is devastating. At this incredibly difficult time, the Prescott family asks only for prayers and respect for their privacy.”
No cause of death was immediately given.
Prescott was one of Dak’s two brothers and the middle son of their mother, Peggy, who died of colon cancer in 2013. He was a 6-foot-6, 343-pound offensive lineman at Northwestern State in Louisiana.
At Haughton High School in Louisiana, Prescott was a four-time all-district and two-time all state football player and also played basketball and ran track.
“He was a great kid who dominated games,” Rodney Guin, Prescott’s high school football coach, told The Shreveport Times. “He was a pleasure to coach — as were all the Prescott boys.”
