Parents in the UK are none too pleased after being forced to shield their children’s eyes from raunchy footage of a squirrel “humping” a deodorant can.
Deodorant Lynx Africa sparked outrage from parents after airing its controversial commercial during the family-friendly “Britain’s Got Talent” show Saturday night. The randy ad amassed over a hundred complaints from viewers, who deemed it “unsuitable for children.”
The 1-minute spot, which celebrates Lynx Africa’s 25th anniversary, follows a teen from the ’90s until now as he tries to meet the girl of his dreams using the brand’s eponymous product. The somewhat clever commemoration then takes a nutty turn by showing the raunchy rodent vigorously thrusting against the spray can, presumably to suggest that not even squirrels can resist the scent.
The risqué promo, which also features heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua, aired 15 minutes before the 9 p.m. cutoff, when more adult content is permitted, Metro UK reports.
The spot has raised a stink with viewers.
“We had 155 complaints about the Lynx TV ad featuring a squirrel behaving amorously with a deodorant can,” a spokesperson for the Advertising Standards Authority said, adding that audiences found the ad “offensive” and “inappropriately scheduled.” The ASA is currently deciding whether the commercial warrants an investigation.
Lynx hasn’t yet returned The Post’s request for comment.
The online masses are also voicing their complaints over Lynx’s lecherous ad.
“Errrrr?! What on earth was that @lynx & squirrel advert?! Two kids here,” tweeted one horrified parent.
Another fumed, “WHY Is there a squirrel humping a can of lynx at the end of your advert!? At 12:55pm on channel 4. Kids are watching. You should be ashamed. It’s disgusting.”
“How the hell did those last 3 seconds get greenlit,” wondered one flabbergasted commenter on YouTube.
Despite the outrage, a spokesperson for ITV claims that the promo adheres to the broadcasting standards.
Lynx Africa isn’t the first to draw ire from audiences with a suggestive commercial. Kentucky Fried Chicken Australia found itself in hot water in January for airing a racy ad depicting young boys gawking at a woman’s breasts.
