‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater’ 1 and 2 getting remastered for PS4, Xbox One and PC
Grab your board, throw on some sick tunes and get ready to skate.
Remastered versions of the beloved video game classics “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater” and “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2” are headed to the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 4 via the Epic Games Store, according to The Verge.
The new game collection will feature updated graphics, an online multiplayer mode and couch co-op mode.
Vicarious Visions is the studio behind the remaster and previously gave a similar treatment to the “Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy,” released in 2017.
“I believe that makes us the ideal studio to faithfully remaster ‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2’,” Vicarious Visions COO Simon Ebejer tells The Verge.
“The challenge of a faithful remaster is knowing where to push the boundaries, and what to keep sacred,” he says. “It’s important to capture the original experience.”
“Tony’s Hawk Pro Skater,” originally released in 1999, helped revolutionize modern gaming with its quick arcade-style gameplay and treasure trove of old-school rap and punk tunes.
The game’s sequel, released in 2000, fine-tuned the formula by adding the manual — a trick when riders skate exclusively on the board’s back wheels — allowing for even higher scores and combos than its predecessor along with even more memorable music.

Ebejer says a “vast majority” of the tracks will return in the remasters. Songs featured in the originals included the Dead Kennedys’ “Police Truck,” Naughty by Nature’s “Pin the Tail on the Donkey” and Rage Against the Machine’s “Guerilla Radio.”
The series also features real professional skateboarders, including the eponymous Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Elissa Steamer and Rune Glifberg.
The most recent game in the series, 2015’s “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5,” only scored a 32 out of 100 on Metacritic.
