Las Vegas cops shoot ‘intoxicated’ man waving BB gun
Police in Las Vegas shot an “intoxicated” man armed with a BB gun who pointed the weapon at officers, harrowing video shows.
Footage of the intense confrontation with cops late Sunday at the Siena Suites Hotel shows a man running through the complex while brandishing a weapon that appeared to be a machine gun.
“He just ran down the south stairwell, he’s down the bottom floor of the south stairwell,” one officer said just before a shot rings out.
“Watch your fire, please,” another officer responds.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Jody Lucas, is then seen walking down a third-floor hallway with a large weapon before three officers open fire, video shows.
Assistant Chief Christopher Darcy said cops responded to the scene after getting reports of an “intoxicated” man who refused to turn down his music and aimed a weapon at other residents there, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Lucas pointed the weapon — later determined to be a BB gun — at officers circling overhead in a helicopter, Darcy told reporters at a news conference Wednesday.
One cop overheard Lucas say he intended to shoot people. He was later shot by officers on the ground floor, the video shows.
In total, five officers were involved in the shooting, the newspaper reports.
Lucas was rushed to a hospital after cops applied two tourniquets to his wounds. He remained in critical condition Wednesday and faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon, the Review-Journal reports.
Lucas had two BB guns in his possession, but didn’t fire any rounds, police said.
