Sweden had the highest number of coronavirus deaths per capita in Europe over the last week, new data shows.
The Scandinavian country — which has allowed most schools, restaurants and businesses to remain open during the global pandemic — saw 6.25 deaths per million inhabitants per day in a rolling seven-day average between May 12 and May 19, according to Ourworldindata.org.
Though deaths in Sweden are on the decline, the per-capita figure was the highest in Europe and just above the United Kingdom, which had 5.75 deaths per million.
