Woman posts video of super cyclone ‘raging like hell’ in India
A woman in India posted video clips of deadly super Cyclone Amphan as it slammed the country on Wednesday.
“It’s raging,” Jasmine C said as she posted an initial video to Twitter showing torrential rain and heavy winds from Cyclone Amphan, that left more than 2.6 million people fleeing to shelters in India and Bangladesh.
Moments later, she posted a second clip — this time the conditions clearly far worse as her neighborhood was plunged into darkness without power.
“It’s dark n eerie.. it’s raging like hell.. power gone.. wind n water everywhere,” she wrote.
“Hope we survive this,” she said.
Cyclone Amphan was the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of up to 105 mph and maximum gusts of almost 120 mph.
Authorities warned it could cause extensive damage to flimsy houses and a storm surge could push seawater 15 miles inland, flooding cities including Kolkata.

A woman crushed by a tree and a 13-year-old girl killed near Kolkata were among the first deaths reported in India before phone connectivity snapped. In southern Bangladesh, a volunteer in a cyclone preparedness team drowned when a boat capsized in a canal.
