Video shows tanker truck barrel toward Minneapolis protesters
A tanker truck barreled into a crowd of protesters peacefully demonstrating on a shut-down interstate in Minneapolis on Sunday in response to the death of George Floyd.
Shocking video showed a sea of marchers on the I-35W bridge running to get out of the way as the semi-trailer zoomed toward them before coming to a stop on the roadway.
The protesters can then be seen surrounding the truck and opening the door. Police also converged on the vehicle with guns drawn, the Star Tribune reported.
“He wasn’t stopping. He was beeping loudly and driving into a crowd of people,” Drew Valle, a special education teacher, told the newspaper.
“That’s the same kind of malice that brought us here,” Valle added. “It’s a callous disregard for someone’s humanity.”
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said the driver was arrested and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Authorities later identified the man as Bogdan Vechirko, according to Fox 9.
It didn’t appear any protesters were hit by the truck.
“Very disturbing actions by a truck driver on I-35W, inciting a crowd of peaceful demonstrators,” the agency tweeted.
