Three British teens have been arrested for a possible hate crime after mocking the death of George Floyd in a photo posted on Snapchat, according to a report.
The pic shows one of the teens resting his knee on the neck of a second man who is sprawled out on the ground, according to the Sun.
They both appear to be laughing in the image, which is accompanied by a “police brutality” caption.
“Imagine being so bold as to post this on your Snapchat,” one source told the Sun after also seeing it shared on a university Facebook group.
“Everyone is rightly enraged by this … these people need to be named and shamed.”
The pair and the pal who took the image were arrested late Sunday on “suspicion of sending communications causing anxiety and distress,” Northumbria Police told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
“We understand that this is social media post has caused significant upset and we want to reassure the public it is being investigated robustly and is being treated as a hate crime,” a spokesperson told the paper.
The trio — two aged 19 and one 18 — were released on bail, police said.
The sick image came to light after it was shared on a Facebook page for new students attending Warwick University.
A spokesperson for the university insisted no one involved in the photo was connected with the university.
“Nor would they be welcomed,” the spokesperson said. “Such behavior goes against the university’s principles which emphasize treating others with respect.”
