New York federal court staffers have been warned not to come into work because of a planned protest at NYPD headquarters on Tuesday, The Post has learned.
An email sent on Monday evening advised all Southern District of New York workers not to go to the Manhattan district court buildings because of the expected demonstration at One Police Plaza.
“The entire area around the courthouse complex will be shut down,” District Executive Edward Friedland wrote in the email, obtained by The Post.
“At the direction of the Chief Judge [Colleen McMahon], no SDNY staff are to come to the Foley Square courthouses tomorrow.”
The court was alerted about the protest by US Marshals, according to the email.
The demonstration over the police-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis appears to be set for 1 p.m. at Foley Square, with protesters then expected to march to NYPD HQ, according to posts on social media.
Most courts employees have been working remotely since March amid the coronavirus, but an increasing number of staff have recently been returning to the courthouse to prepare for ultimately reopening to the public at a later date.
SDNY didn’t return a request for comment from The Post.
