YouTube star Trevi Moran comes out as a transgender woman
The YouTube sensation formerly known as Trevor Moran has come out as a transgender woman.
In a video posted Saturday, called “Coming Out. I Am Female,” the 21-year-old explained to her 1.44 million subscribers on YouTube that her name is now Trevi.
“Hi, My name is Trevi Moran. I am a transgender female,” she began.
“I’ve dealt with this feeling my entire life, and I know that I’m a woman deep down inside. It’s just a feeling, you know,” she said. “I hit a rock in my journey in 2017 when I thought I wasn’t transgender because I thought that people were pushing me to be transgender. I just had a lot of demons back then. A lot of eating disorder stuff, self-confidence issues. It wasn’t the time for me to come out back then. But now I’m here, and I’m transgender.”
Moran, who first gained fame on “The X Factor” in 2012, said she’d tried and failed filming the proclamation 14 times, and had even planned “this whole thing” involving a photo shoot and new music — but “it didn’t feel right,” she said.
“I feel like I’m glamorizing it and trying to capitalize off it, and it’s just not the situation,” she said. “I’m just sick of waiting. I just wanted to sit down and tell you that I’m a transgender woman.”
The singer said she’d been on female hormones for two months and her “brain is just everywhere.”
“I’m going through a lot right now,” she said. “All just because I want to be me and express myself.”
Moran has closely documented the process, which she’ll reveal in a forthcoming docuseries “Trevi: The Transition.”
In late 2017, Moran, who had recently come out as homosexual, also told fans that she had been suffering a “mental f- - king breakdown” following personal and public speculation over her gender.
“As I started to experiment with just things, you know, like, makeup and clothes and stuff, I realized that I really liked it,” she said in a YouTube video. “What if that’s what’s going on with me? Maybe the reason why I don’t feel fulfilled is because I’m not in the right body. So I sat on it for a few months, I cried a whole lot, and I came to the conclusion that I was transgender.”
She admitted to buying an entirely new wardrobe and scheduling appointments to begin hormone-replacement therapy in preparation to transition, but ultimately decided she wasn’t ready at the time.
A 13-year-old Moran performed a cheeky solo rendition of LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” for “X-Factor” judges Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Simon Cowell and LA Reid in 2012. She also has regularly appeared on friend Tana Mongeau‘s show “MTV No Filter,” and on the red carpet in non-binary looks.
Moran concluded her announcement with a message of encouragement to fans who may also be struggling with their identity.
“If you’re ever lost, just don’t go out,” she said. “Go in. Go in and find yourself, because going out and distracting yourself defeats the purpose.”
