Man killed, 2 injured in Long Island boat crash

A man was killed and two others injured when two boats collided in Long Island’s Great South Bay over the weekend, according to Suffolk County Police.

David Nostrand, 58, of Farmingdale, was operating a 17-foot 1981 Boston Whaler southbound in West Fox Creek Channel around 2:40 p.m. Sunday when his vessel struck a northbound 1987 Activator motor boat, operated by Ian Morgan, 19, of Lindenhurst, authorities said.

Zachary McCarthy, 25, also of Lindenhurst, who was on board the 22-foot Activator, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Nostrand and Morgan were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with minor injuries.

Detectives are investigating the crash. Both boats were impounded for safety checks.
