The most anticipated shoes of the summer — from a dream-team mashup involving Rihanna, her “right-hand man” Jahleel Weaver and shoe designer Amina Muaddi — dropped Wednesday under the singer’s luxury fashion label, Fenty.
And after only a couple hours, some styles are already sold out.
Much like anything Queen RiRi blesses with her magic wand, this blink-and-you’ll-miss-it drop, named 7-20, is no ordinary collection. Designed with Paris-based Muaddi, Fenty creative director Weaver dreamed up the collab.
“I had purchased some of [Muaddi’s] shoes for Rihanna for projects we were doing, and I reached out saying I was such a fan,” Weaver told Vogue. “We later scheduled a meet-up and a cocktail. From there it’s been history.”
Muaddi first announced that she would be working on an upcoming shoe collection for Fenty with the fashion icon when she was named designer of the year at the Footwear News Achievement Awards in December.
With a fan base from Rihanna to the Kardashians to fashion-industry insiders, Muaddi is known for her signature martini-shaped heels and Cinderella-inspired glass slippers that are both cult-like in status and quite literally impossible to get. Despite the world being on coronavirus lockdown, a late-March capsule collection with MatchesFashion sold out within hours — even though the heels come with a hefty price tag upward of $500.
Tapping into Muaddi’s penchant for clean lines, vibrant hues and modern silhouettes, the four styles represent a seamless blend of Muaddi’s vision and the Fenty aesthetic — with square toes, clear straps, neon hues, mesh mules and sexy lace-up straps decorated with crystals.
A second release is set to drop on Farfetch.com on July 22.
