Alleged carjacker charged with slaying woman in Staten Island crash
A man was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder for allegedly crashing a stolen car into another vehicle on Staten Island, resulting in the death of a 32-year-old woman, police said.
Tashawn Beckford, 23, is accused of killing Christine Dahlstrom and seriously injuring an unidentified man in the April 25 collision on Arden Avenue and Annadale Road in Annandale, cops said.
Police said Beckford, of Newark, New Jersey, blew a red light in a stolen Lexus SUV before ramming into a Ford SUV with Dahlstrom and another occupant inside.
The alleged carjacker totaled the Ford before crashing the stolen Lexus into a tree and fleeing on foot.
Beckford was also charged with manslaughter, assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
City Councilman Joseph Borelli applauded the arrest and said he’s been in close contact with Dahlstrom’s partner since the crash.
“I was with her partner on Friday night just after the cops told him they were on the verge of an arrest,” Borelli tweeted. “It will help him rest at night.”
