LI cops hunting for booby trapper after camouflage rope nearly kills teen ATV rider

Cops in Long Island are hunting for a saboteur who has been tying green camouflage rope across Sag Harbor nature trails — which almost decapitated one teen ATV rider.

James Elder, 17, collided on Aug. 7 with the parachute cords while illicitly riding one of the four-wheeled bikes on the trail.

“I got knocked off the back of my quad, lost my helmet and stuff, went unconscious,” Edler told CBS New York on Wednesday.

“Someone just got really upset about us riding and decided to take matters into their own hands, to try to stop us.”

Southampton Town Police located a second tied across the train near the scene of Elder’s collision, Lt. James Kiernan told ABC 7 New York.

“When the detectives were there, helping this child out to the ambulance, they came across another parachute cord across another two trees,” Kiernan said.

“It looked like somebody had booby-trapped that wooded area for the, for the purpose of hurting these riders.”

Cops have offered a $5,000 reward for information about the traps.

“It’s evil, it is evil, I think it’s evil,” the victim’s mother, Tina Elder, told the news outlet — though she acknowledged that the vehicles are illegal on the trail.

Kiernan said there have been a significant number of complaints about illegal bikes on the paths.

“We’ve had to do more enforcement,” he said, according to CBS. “We’ve impounded more than a dozen motorbikes and ATVS.”
