The wife of the alleged ringleader of the “We Build the Wall” scam that ensnared former White House adviser Steve Bannon on Thursday told The Post that her husband is a trustworthy man — and claimed she had no idea he was allegedly bilking donors.
Ashley Kolfage, 34, insisted she does not follow her husband Brian Kolfage’s social media campaigns and political activism, which led to his indictment on fraud charges in the Southern District of New York on Thursday.
“I don’t follow any of his social media stuff. I don’t follow any of his political stuff, I am completely far away from any of that,” Ashley said.
Brian, a triple amputee and Air Force veteran, allegedly siphoned off $20,000 a month from a viral GoFundMe fundraiser, “We Build the Wall,” which launched in 2018 and raised $25 million.
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan said the 38-year-old spent the ill-gotten gains on a luxury SUV, golf cart, personal tax payments and credit card debt.
In a phone call Thursday, Ashley insisted that she earns her own money through her work as a model and social media influencer for the energy drink Bang and other brands.
“I’ll let him speak on his behalf, but I make my own money with all the stuff that I do. I have not spent a penny of his money on all of that,” she said.
She also believes her husband is innocent of the charges because she knows him as a trustworthy and honest man.
“He’s never done anything wrong to people, so I don’t think he would be doing that kind of stuff,” she said.
“If you need him, he’s always there. He’s just a really good guy. Trustworthy,” she added.
Kolfage was arrested Thursday morning, along with Bannon and two other men for their alleged roles in the scheme.
