3-year-old girl lifted to the sky after getting caught on kite, video shows
Heart-stopping video shows a 3-year-old girl being lifted up to 100 feet in the sky after getting caught on a giant kite.
Footage from a festival in the seaside town of Nanlioao, Taiwan, on Sunday shows a group of helpers struggling to contain the giant length of orange material as they are battered by heavy winds.
The crowd’s cheers at the kite first taking flight soon turn to screams of horror when the end of the kite’s long tail follows — with the little girl caught up and soaring with it.
The girl, said to weigh just 28 pounds, was repeatedly tossed around, according to The Sun, which cited local reports that she went as high as 100 feet in the air.
She spent at least 30 seconds being tossed around in the air before finally being lowered close enough for a group of festival-goers to pull her to safety.
Amazingly, the youngster — only identified by the surname Lin — escaped serious injury, suffering only mild scratches to her face and neck, officials told Taiwan News.
It was not immediately clear how she became caught up in the kite, which appeared to have been wrapped around her stomach, the report said.
The annual festival was called off after the horrifying incident.
“The city government team offers its sincere apology to the victim and the public,” Nanlioao’s mayor Lin Chih-chien said, according to the paper.
