A British politician is under investigation after crashing into a cyclist — injuring the man and sending him to the hospital over the weekend.
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, 58, was driving his SUV in North West London when he struck the man outside a bar Sunday afternoon, The Sun newspaper reported.
Witness Nicolas Janes, 39, said he heard a “loud bang” and saw the cyclist in pain.
“I was walking and there was a bang. A loud bang,” he told the outlet. “The cyclist was on the pavement, he was holding his arm. He looked like he was in a lot of pain.”
A spokesman for the opposition leader told The Guardian he reported the collision to the police and has been in touch with the cyclist.
“Keir stayed at the scene until the ambulance arrived,” the spokesman added. “Later that afternoon, he reported the incident to a police station in accordance with the law.”
Starmer was the former Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Metropolitan Police said the driver left the scene before officers arrived and that they tried contacting him so he could report the crash to the authorities.
Cops have not confirmed Karmer was involved in the incident and said no arrests were made.
