Militia members allegedly planned to televise the executions of Michigan officials after storming the state Capitol — or else kill them by locking the building’s doors and setting it on fire, according to a report.
The fiendish scheme — part of a plot that also involved kidnapping Gov. Gretchen Whitmer — is detailed in court papers filed by the state Attorney General’s Office, the Detroit Free Press said.
Accused ringleader Adam Fox, 37, allegedly laid out the grisly scenarios during a pro-gun rights rally at the Capitol in Lansing on June 18.
“Plan A consisted of recruiting 200 men and then storming the Capitol building in Lansing while Congress was in session,” court papers said. “They were to take hostages, execute tyrants and have it televised. It would take about one week and that no one is coming out alive.”
A “secondary plan” allegedly called for the plotters “to storm the Capitol building in Lansing when Congress was in session.”
“They would then lock the entrances/exits to the structure. They would then set the building on fire,” court papers said.
The mention of “Congress” referred to state lawmakers, the Free Press said, citing the AG’s Office. Prosecutors filed the brief last month and released it to the Free Press after determining it wasn’t covered by a sealing order, the outlet said.
The court filing also revealed new details about the shadowy “Wolverine Watchmen” militia group whose members were allegedly involved in the plot.
On a private Facebook page, the Watchmen described themselves as “a group of Patriots to network and assemble and recruit like-minded individuals” described as “boojahidden only.”
“‘Boojahidden’ is a term derived from the term ‘mujahedeen’ and is a reference to fighters with weapons, gear, and training who are willing to die for their cause,” court papers said.
“Boojahideen fighters are often rogue military members or rogue law enforcement officers who are prepared for the ‘boogaloo’, which is a term used for the upcoming civil war, which will result from an uprising against the government.”
The court papers were filed ahead of an Oct. 23 bond hearing for Pete Musico, 42, one of eight alleged plotters charged under state law, the Free Press said.
Musico was later released on $100,000 bond and court-ordered GPS monitoring, the Free Press said.
Six other men, including Fox, are being prosecuted in federal court in the alleged plot to kidnap Whitmer.
