The death of the 59-year-old woman who was discovered with a plastic bag over her head in her Bronx home has been ruled a homicide by asphyxia — and cops are still looking to question her adult son, authorities said.
Teresita Rosario’s daughter called the police to conduct a wellness check Saturday because she hadn’t heard from her for the past two days, police said.
Responding officers found her body around 8:10 p.m. at the bottom of the stairs in the basement of her home on Clinton Avenue in Belmont, cops said.
She also had two USB cords wrapped around her neck, according to police sources.
Her 29-year-old son, who lived in the home, is considered a person of interest in the slaying, according to police sources.
The son, Michael Marte, had been living in Lakeland, Fla., until he returned to the Bronx to find a job earlier this year, leaving behind his 19-year-old girlfriend and their infant son, the child’s mother, Jessica Bustos told The Post.
Bustos later joined Marte in New York, she said.
“We were together for a year and three months,” Bustos told The Post in a telephone interview. “We were together 24/7, not one second apart for a good four months. Eventually, I did get pregnant.”
But police sources said there were four domestic violence calls to Rosario’s Bronx apartment since September — after Bustos and the couple’s young son joined Marte there.
The circumstances of those incidents were unclear and it does not appear that any resulted in charges.
Florida court records show that Marte was also arrested in New Port Richey, Florida, in 2018 for marijuana possession and driving under the influence.
The outcome of the case is not currently available.
