Michael Rainey Jr. compares his love scenes on “Power Book II: Ghost” with Bollywood movies when it comes to preserving his character Tariq’s virginity.
“The funny thing is, Tariq — he has done it. It just wasn’t shown; it was either Season 4 or 5, with Ray Ray’s niece, Destiny. That’s when Tariq supposedly lost his innocence. But they didn’t show it, so nobody really noticed it. But he definitely lost sexual innocence,” he told The Post about his role in the Starz series.
“It’s like a Bollywood movie, in a way. The series is known for their crazy sex scenes and stuff like that. But who knows?” he said. “Tariq is getting grown; he’s in college now, so who knows what will happen soon?”
As for his potential love triangle with Lauren Baldwin (played by Paige Hurd) and Diana Tejada (LaToya Tonodeo), Rainey thinks one lover would suit him better than the other.
“You got two beautiful women in his life right now. But the thing is, he’s trying to figure out who he can trust,” he said. “Because, you know, Diana — she’s a little easier to trust because she’s in the streets. That’s No. 1. No. 2, they kind of have something in common with Tariq’s mom being in jail and her dad being in jail. I feel like they’re close — in the same world.”
He added, “He can trust Lauren, but she can’t really know what Tariq is going through because what he’s going through is not normal at all. She’s a regular school girl; a lot of things that Tariq is going through will probably blow her mind.
“But if I have to pick, honestly, I would say Diana.”
“Power Book II: Ghost” airs at 8 p.m. Sunday on Starz.
