It turns out Giants rookie Niko Lalos has more connections to LeBron James than just attending the same high school.
Prior to the undrafted defensive end’s NFL debut in Week 12 against the Bengals, James wished Lalos good luck on Twitter. The four-time NBA champion’s message was a quote-tweet from their alma mater, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, announcing the 23-year-old’s promotion to the Giants’ active roster.
But apparently there’s an even more personal connection between the two.
“It’s actually funny, my mom is a high school teacher, and she had two students a little bit before I was born,” Lalos said on The Post’s “Blue Rush” podcast this week.
“They ended up working for LeBron … and then I ended up later going to that high school and playing for the same varsity basketball coach.”
Lalos went on to make a diving interception to help force a turnover in the Giants’ 19-17 win in Cincinnati. It wasn’t until after the win that the Dartmouth product found out about James’ shoutout.
“No, I actually didn’t see it until afterwards because there’s a rule that coach Judge doesn’t want us putting our headphones in and using our phones ‘X ‘amount of minutes before the game,” said Lalos, who added that he’s never hung out with James. “I didn’t want to get fined or anything.
“One of my teammates actually said, ‘Yo, how do you know LeBron? Did you see what he tweeted?’”
