Rams QB John Wolford taken to hospital with neck injury after Jamal Adams hit

Former Jet Jamal Adams is still delivering hard hits — and Los Angeles Rams quarterback John Wolford found that out the hard way.

Wolford was knocked out of Saturday’s wild-card game at the Seattle Seahawks in the first quarter with a neck injury after taking a big hit by Adams on a quarterback scramble.

The Rams announced during the game that Wolford was taken to a local hospital for precautionary measures.

Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters after his team’s 30-20 win that Wolford returned from the hospital and was in the locker room “smiling and celebrating” with the team.

Wolford started the game in place of the injured Jared Goff — who was still recovering from Dec. 28 surgery on his right thumb, which he injured during the Rams’ loss to the Seahawks in Week 16. Goff, who was active for Saturday’s game, replaced Wolford.

Adams was initially flagged for an unnecessary roughness penalty as his shoulder pad collided with Wolford’s helmet. Officials picked up the flag, however, explaining Wolford was a runner and was not sliding to give himself up. Nevertheless, Fox officiating expert Mike Pereira, a former NFL official, said he thought Adams should have been penalized because Wolford was near the ground and defenseless.

Wolford, who was originally listed as questionable to return, exchanged a handshake with Adams as he left the field.
