The retired Air Force lieutenant colonel busted in military gear while carrying zip-tie handcuffs during the deadly Capitol riots was turned in by his ex-wife, according to a federal affidavit.
Larry Rendell Brock’s ex-wife of 18 years called the FBI National Threat Operations Center (NTOC) on Friday to say she recognized the 53-year-old Texas veteran from photos of rioters on the Senate floor Wednesday.
“I just know that when I saw this was happening I was afraid he would be there,” the ex, who was not identified, told agents, according to an arrest affidavit.
“I think you already know he was there. It is such a good picture of him and I recognize his patch,” she said, according to the documents.
A second witness with extensive knowledge of his military background also contacted the FBI, emailing a photo from the riots to point out the father of three among the throng of rioters.
Despite being retired, Brock still had close contacts in the Air Force who “knew he was flying to Washington DC,” the affidavit said.
Brock was seen outside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office suite after it was broken into, as well as carrying large zip-tie restraints while on the Senate floor, the affidavit said.
He confirmed to the New Yorker that he was the man in the images, but insisted he had just picked up the zip-ties rather than taken them with him with any nefarious intentions.
Brock was fired from his job at the private aviation firm Hillwood Airways and then arrested Sunday.
He was charged with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, the feds said.
Brock is one of at least 90 people so far arrested on various charges tied to the riots that left five dead.
