The teacher at an all-girls public school in Queens charged with having sex with an underage teen girl in Florida was released on bail Monday.
Zeshaan Naqvi, 31, a social studies teacher at the Young Women’s Leadership School in Jamaica, walked out of a Hillsborough County jail shortly after 2:30 a.m. after posting a $60,000 bond, Florida prosecutors said.
Naqvi, of Queens Village, was charged Saturday with unlawful sexual activity with a minor and other charges after allegedly traveling to Florida to have sex with a girl he met online, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
A spokesman for the Florida State Attorney General’s Office said Naqvi was released at his preliminary appearance before a judge.
His bond was set at $7,500 for each of the eight charges against him, prosecutors said.
Naqvi, who teaches middle school, is accused of flying to Florida and picking up the victim at her home in Tampa around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
He allegedly brought her to his hotel room and had sex with the girl, county Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a release.
Naqvi allegedly drove the teen home but picked her up again around 1 p.m. and took her back to the hotel, where he was arrested early Sunday and admitted he knew that the teen was underage, the sheriff said.
It was not immediately known when he was due to return to court.
The New York City Department of Education said Naqvi has worked for the school system since 2014 and does not have a history of any disciplinary actions.
He will be reassigned away from the all-girls school, the BOE said.
