Thousands raised for 5-year-old severely injured in crash involving Chiefs’ Britt Reid

More than $55,000 has been collected for a 5-year-old girl who was severely injured in a Missouri car crash involving Kansas City Chiefs Assistant Coach Britt Reid.

“Ariel who just turned 5 years old suffered swelling in the brain and bleeding around her brain, she hasn’t woken since the crash,” the girl’s aunt, Tiffany Verhulst, wrote on GoFundMe page for the fundraiser, which includes a photo of the girl hooked up to medical tubes and heavily bandaged while sleeping in her hospital bed. “She is still in very critical condition.”

More than 1,500 people had donated as of Saturday night, about 15 hours after the fundraiser opened.

The campaign was verified by a GoFundMe spokesperson, the Kansas City Star reported.

Reid was driving a white Dodge Ram not far from the Chiefs practice facility around 9 p.m. Thursday when he hit a Chevrolet Traverse that was stopped on the side of a highway entrance ramp, authorities said. At the time, the Traverse was trying to aide a driver who had run out of gas, police said.

Reid, the son of head coach Andy Reid, allegedly admitted to responding officers he’d had between two to three drinks and was on an Adderall prescription. Reid will not travel to Tampa with the team on Sunday for Super Bowl LV following the crash.

The girl, whose last name has not been released, was inside the Traverse at the time of the crash. A 4-year-old child also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Ariel’s mother had driven the Traverse to the I-435 ramp to help her cousin who had run out of gas, Verhulst said.

“Her mother is a single mom of 3, she will be in the hospital for the foreseeable future, this is set up for the hospital bills and weeks of missed work she will have,” Verhulst wrote.
