Cops busted the van driver who allegedly fatally struck a 4-year-old boy — and gravely wounded a 6-year-old — moments after he dropped them off in front of their Brooklyn yeshiva last month, police said.
Yehiel Guzi, 76, of Old Tappan, New Jersey, was arrested Tuesday morning — more than a month after he allegedly struck the two children with his blue 15-passenger vehicle after dropping them off in front of Yeshiva Ketana on 67th Street in Bensonhurst on Jan. 4, cops said.
The youngest child, identified as Yoshi Balaban, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the older victim was taken to Maimonides Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
The children were not related and were carpooling to school together from Staten Island, a rabbi from the yeshiva told the Post at the time.
Guzi fled after the crash, but he returned to the scene — and police said at the time that he did not realize he had struck the children.
Though he was not immediately charged, he now faces raps for criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and acting in a manner injurious to a child, according to police.
