Ted Cruz says wife Heidi is ‘pretty pissed’ over leaked Cancun texts
Heidi Cruz is “pissed” that texts showing her inviting neighborhood pals on the family’s tone-deaf jaunt to Cancun were leaked to the press, according to Sen. Ted Cruz, who ripped those responsible as “a-holes.”
The Texas GOPer addressed his PR nightmare of a trip to Mexico on the podcast “Ruthless,” which aired Tuesday.
“I will say Heidi’s pretty pissed at that,” Cruz said about the group text where his better half asked friends to flee to Cancun with them amid the “FREEZING” temps.
Cruz noted that he has a mix of Republican and Democrat neighbors in his exclusive River Oaks neighborhood in Houston — and said the leak was a sign of “how ridiculously politicized and nasty” people can get.
“Here’s a suggestion: just don’t be a–holes,” he continued. “Like, just, you know, treat each other as human beings have some degree, some modicum of respect.”
Cruz has been doing damage control after he was caught flying to Cancun with his wife and two daughters, ages 10 and 12, on Wednesday — days after Texas was crippled by a once-in-a-lifetime winter storm.
The senator was forced to cut his trip short, flying back home the very next day, and issue an apology.
Cruz came under intense scrutiny over the optics of the mini-vacation — and for leaving the family pooch, Snowflake, home alone with no power or heat.
“Apparently, I fed Snowflake to the wolves,” Cruz said, brushing off the backlash. “He was home with a dog sitter. The heat was kind of back on. The whole thing is a bit absurd.”
He also slammed the media for publishing snaps of Heidi in her bikini on the beach.
“I will tell you THAT she is pissed about,” he quipped.
At the beginning of his interview on the podcast, Cruz riffed off the long-standing joke that he is the infamous Zodiac Killer, who terrorized the Golden State decades ago.
“Look, I haven’t had this much negative press coverage since Northern California in the 1960s,” he cracked.
