Washington to release Alex Smith days after revealing interview

Last week, Alex Smith ripped the Washington Football team for not wanting him. Now, the team appears ready to part ways with the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year.

The 36-year-old Smith is expected to be released, NFL Network reported, after he helped lead the team to the postseason.

Smith, 36, had said he wants to keep playing, after a miraculous return following a gruesome leg injury that nearly cost him his life. In eight games last year, Smith threw six touchdown passes, eight interceptions and completed 66.7 percent of his passes. Washington, however, went 5-3 in those games, and 5-1 in games he started.

“When I decided to come back, I definitely threw a wrench in the team’s plan,” Smith told GQ. “They didn’t see it, didn’t want me there, didn’t want me to be a part of it, didn’t want me to be on the team, the roster, didn’t want to give me a chance. Mind you, it was a whole new regime, they came in, I’m like the leftovers and I’m hurt and I’m this liability.

“Heck no, they didn’t want me there. At that point, as you can imagine, everything I’d been through, I couldn’t have cared less about all that. Whether you like it or not, I’m giving this a go at this point.”

Now, if Smith wants to keep playing, it may have to be with another team.
