Danessa Myricks launches namesake beauty brand at Sephora

Danessa Myricks is the definition of a beauty visionary.

Known for working with celebrities like Britney Spears, Madonna and Ciara, she’s truly an expert at her craft.

And six years after launching her namesake Danessa Myricks Beauty brand, the beauty vet is now celebrating her brand’s exciting launch at Sephora.

The Sephora launch includes 80 select products from the Danessa Myricks Beauty collection. Celebrated for its inclusive and cruelty-free products, the brand has something for every beauty lover.

Its Vision Cream Cover foundation is a lightweight beauty staple that will cover even the most stubborn blemishes. There are bold lip colors that will accentuate every look. And its luxe setting powder helps to create the perfect finish.

Plus, with prices starting at just $18, you can stock up on everything it has to offer while sticking to your beauty budget.

Trust us when we say that you won’t be able to resist this fabulous collection.

And to give you the full rundown on the line, we chatted with the Myricks to learn more about the collection and the woman behind this pioneering brand.

How did you get your start in the beauty space?

I’m quite the accidental makeup artist. I was working corporate and somehow landed myself a job in marketing and sales at a publishing company that produced beauty magazines. Seeing the transformations that happened during their photoshoots and feeling the energy of the artists on set was intoxicating. I dreamed of creating a life where I could unleash this creative side that I had buried inside of me but never actually saw it as an opportunity for myself.

I found myself at a major crossroad when the owner decided to close the business to go in another direction. I decided to follow my heart and as a 30-year old single mom of two proclaimed naïvely “I am a makeup artist” and this new journey began.

What inspired you to launch your own beauty brand?

There are so many stories being told, conversations being had, ideas being shared, and I didn’t hear my voice or the voice of so many people I know and love in them.  I had so much I wanted to say and starting Danessa Myricks Beauty was an opportunity to say it.

How did this launch with Sephora come together?

Although Sephora has been aware of me and the brand for some time, the full-on courtship didn’t begin until about a year ago. They had a vision of what the brand could be and really were interested in partnering with me to help share my products and ideas about makeup with their audience. We worked together to create a plan that supported the bandwidth of my small business while ensuring that the assortment really represented the brand DNA.

What does this launch mean to you as a Black woman entrepreneur?

It’s no secret that the journey of a Black female entrepreneur can look very different than their counterparts.  For me and many others, there have been so many unfair barriers to our success. I know that there are so many other entrepreneurs who have been working incredibly hard, consistently for many years waiting for an opportunity and wondering if it is even possible for them. I want them to know that it is possible.

What do you hope your brand’s presence will add to Sephora’s lineup of beauty brands.

It’s another energy, a different perspective, another conversation, another voice. They all are valid and important.  I’m excited to expand the idea of what makeup could be and more excited that more people will be able to take this journey of texture and color with me.

I know what it feels like to walk through the aisles and not see yourself.  My wish is that more beauty lovers from all walks of life see that there are people who want to experience makeup the same way they do. My dream is that people will enter into my playground of texture and color and feel like this is the party invitation they’ve been waiting for!

What are some of your favorites from the collection launching at Sephora?

Although this question always feels like choosing my favorite child, I really would love for everyone to enjoy the power, fun and flexibility of Colorfix and Vision Cream Cover foundation.

Colorfix is an award-winning, multipurpose pigment that can be used anywhere on the face. We literally documented over 100 ways to use it. It’s our hero product and everyone who’s tried it has found multiple ways to play!

Vision Cream Cover is our adjustable coverage foundation that reimagines what the flexibility of a foundation can be! It’s sure to surprise and delight!

What advice do you have for others who want a career in beauty — specifically as a beauty entrepreneur.

I would say be fearless in sharing their unique authentic self! Their stories and ideas are important and necessary. The world needs to see it. Be patient. Never quit. Don’t stop believing!
